Lavallette and Seaside Park will end an agreement in which the two towns share a municipal court administrator, thanks to a pending retirement and data that shows Lavallette’s court could be run cheaper with an in-house, part-time administrator of its own.<\/p>\n

Under the agreement, the two towns each maintained municipal courts, but the administrative end was handled together since both courts are small. A pending retirement led the towns to re-evaluate the agreement, which culminated in Lavallette’s decision to hire its own part-time administrator for a few hours per week, and Seaside Park to partner with a new town \u2013 Surf City \u2013 that had been looking to outsource its administrative work.<\/p>\n

“We don\u2019t need a lot of service, and if we hire a part-time person ourselves, we don\u2019t have to worry about benefits and vacations,” said Lavallette Councilwoman Joanne Filippone.<\/p>\n

Lavallette conducted interviews for its new administrator this week, with a candidate expected to be hired and begin work after the new year. Seaside Park was poised to approve its shared services agreement with Surf City on Thursday night at a borough council meeting.<\/p>\n
