Extensive mold remediation is ongoing at the Lavallette lifeguard headquarters building, which was completed last year.<\/p>\n

Several of the firms that worked on the\u00a0$386,960 building, which replaced another one destroyed during Superstorm Sandy, will each fund a portion of the remediation, officials said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShortly afrer the summer, employees started to recognize that we had a problem with mold in the building,\u201d said Mayor Walter LaCicero after the problem was first discovered. \u201cWe discovered there was a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

The building, on Philadelphia Avenue, was only used part of last season, as its construction was not completed until the middle of summer. Officials are hopeful the building will be operational this year \u2013 it is currently gutted with plywood and walls having been removed as part of the remediation process.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to have it ready before Memorial Day,\u201d said Councilman Robert Lamb. \u201cThat doesn\u2019t look like the case, but I believe it will be completed before the opening of the beach.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was not disclosed at a public meeting Monday night which contractors will be paying which percentage of the remediation work.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll parties involved agreed to a percentage of the repair cost,\u201d said Lamb. \u201cIn the end, when all the expenses are tallied up, so and so will pay \u2018x\u2019 percent and so and so will pay \u2018y\u2019 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n
