Carl DelPizzo Jr. and Cindy Kuhmann (of Carl\u2019s Fencing, Decking, & Home Improvements) presented Island Beach Motor Lodge, Ocean Lifeguard R.J. Hager with an Automated External Defibrillator<\/p><\/div>\n

Lifeguards at the Island Beach Motor Lodge in South Seaside Park will have another tool at their disposal: an AED, or automated external defibrillator, courtesy of a local fencing company.<\/p>\n

An AED is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm, used to treat sudden cardiac arrest. Carl’s Fencing, based in Toms River, donated the unit this week to the motel’s lifeguards.<\/p>\n

“This device will be used daily in training and in real-life emergencies,” said Rich Schlatter, beach manager for the motel. “In appreciation of such generosity, the lifeguards<\/span> have applied the Carl\u2019s Fencing logo to their Surf Rescue Boat.”<\/p>\n

The device cost over$1,000, Schlatter said.<\/p>\n
