Though just a coincidence, plans to improve Bay Boulevard were announced just days after a nor’easter flooded much of the roadway and sent salt water flowing up local streets.<\/p>\n

Lavallette Council President Anita Zalom said Tuesday that a project to replace outfall pipes that have failed in recent years will either be completed just before the summer season begins, or after it ends. Though a date has not yet been set, the funding for the work has already been dedicated by Ocean County, which has jurisdiction over the roadway.<\/p>\n

“We have been screaming about Bay Boulevard for the last 20 years,” said Zalom. “They\u2019ve studied Bay Boulevard and they know all the outfall pipes there are shot, they\u2019re collapsed.”<\/p>\n

The county recently obtained environmental permits required for the work, which will include the replacement of all of the outfall pipes \u2013 which route storm sewers to the bay \u2013 along the roadway as well as fresh paving. The pipe replacement will come first.<\/p>\n

“Once they do that, they will pave,” said Zalom. “It\u2019s going to be beautiful, but it\u2019s just taking a lot of time.”<\/p>\n
