A jury has convicted a Seaside Park man of several weapons offenses and making threats, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced, including possession of so-called “cop killer” bullets.<\/p>\n

Corey Cure, 24, was found guilty on two counts of second degree unlawful possession of a firearm, one count of third degree terroristic threats, and one count of fourth degree unlawful possession of hollow nose bullets following a two-week jury trial.<\/p>\n

After the guilty verdict was returned by the jury, Cure pled guilty to two counts of being a “certain person not to have weapons” \u2013 also crimes of the second degree. Cure was taken into custody and is currently lodged in the Ocean County Jail.\u00a0 He is scheduled to be sentenced by Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan on July 26, 2019, at which time he faces a potential decades-long prison term.<\/p>\n

The charges stem from an incident involving Cure and officers from the Seaside Heights Police Department on Oct. 28, 2016.\u00a0 As a result of that encounter, Cure was arrested for creating a disturbance in public. A search of Cure\u2019s backpack after his arrest revealed the presence of two firearms, one loaded, as well as hollow point bullets, prosecutors said. Cure also threatened to kill one of the officers during the booking process.<\/p>\n

Due to his prior criminal history, Cure is considered a \u201ccertain person\u201d under New Jersey law, meaning that he may never legally possess a firearm in this state.<\/p>\n
