A 30-year-old Pennsylvania woman has been charged with driving while intoxicated and assaulting a police officer following an altercation Saturday night, prosecutors said Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office,\u00a0Seaside Park police were called to the Wel<\/span><\/span>ls Fargo B<\/span><\/span>ank on Northeast Central Avenue Saturday with regard to<\/span><\/span> a suspicious female in the ban<\/span><\/span>k<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>later <\/span><\/span>identified as Jessica Hayes<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As <\/span><\/span>Seaside Park Police Officers <\/span><\/span>were <\/span><\/span>speaking to<\/span><\/span> Hayes, of Bensalem, Pa.,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a<\/span><\/span> New Jersey State Park <\/span><\/span>Police o<\/span><\/span>fficer <\/span><\/span>arrived <\/span><\/span>and told the local cops that he had attempted to stop Hayes as she was leaving Island Beach State Park. The Park Police officer witnessed Hayes operating a <\/span><\/span>blue Hyundai in Island Beach State Park, traveling <\/span><\/span>in excess of 70<\/span><\/span> miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone, the statement said. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hayes \u201c<\/span><\/span>ignored commands to<\/span><\/span> pull over and continued out of Island Beach State Park at a high rate of speed,\u201d according to prosecutors. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hayes, according to police, continued north on Central Avenue<\/span><\/span> into Seaside Park, reach<\/span><\/span>ing<\/span><\/span> speeds of 60 miles per hour <\/span><\/span>while <\/span><\/span>weaving in and out of traffic. Due to <\/span><\/span>the \u201c<\/span><\/span>substantial<\/span><\/span> risk of injury to the public,\u201d t<\/span><\/span>he New Jersey<\/span><\/span> State<\/span><\/span> Park Police officer<\/span><\/span>\u00a0terminated his pursuit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hayes displayed signs of intoxication and f<\/span><\/span>ield sobriety tests were performed <\/span><\/span>at the bank, the statement said. While attempting to place Hayes under arrest, <\/span><\/span>she \u201c<\/span><\/span>resisted and assaulted\u201d<\/span><\/span> two Seas<\/span><\/span>ide Park Police officers and one<\/span><\/span> New Jersey <\/span><\/span>State <\/span><\/span>Park Police s<\/span><\/span>ergeant. \u00a0<\/span><\/span>Hayes was <\/span><\/span>eventually arrested without further incident. Officers subsequently obtained a Blood Warrant to determine Hayes\u2019 level of intoxication, according to the statement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s my understanding that Hayes caused minor injuries to two Seaside Park Police Officers and that she actually bit a State Park Police Sergeant on his leg\u201d Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer stated. \u201cQuite frankly, we are lucky no one else was injured by her reckless behavior on a very busy Saturday at the Jersey Shore. All of the Officers involved did a great job and it looks like they will all be ok. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hayes is being evaluated at a local hospital, and will be transported to the Ocean County Jail once she is medically cleared, Billhimer added.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
