Lavallette officials are hopeful the new borough hall building will be open in time for the annual Lavallette Birthday Party, scheduled this year for Dec. 21.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is absolutely stunning, and it is starting to take on its character,\u201d Councilwoman Joanne Filippone said of the building during an update at a council meeting held Monday night.<\/p>\n

Filippone said the plan \u2013 assuming the building is ready \u2013 is to have a dedication ceremony that day and hold tours in the afternoon for any residents who want to get an inside look.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is pretty well completed\u201d now,\u00a0said Filippone, adding that when residents see the building for the first time, there likely will be no decorations on the walls, though the borough\u2019s Memorabilia Committee has been working hard on about five projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re very comprehensive projects that will be very impressive when they\u2019re completed,\u201d Filippone said.<\/p>\n

Borough officials have touted not only the state-of-the-art technology that will be present in the new building, but also its resilience and ability to withstand future storms such as Superstorm Sandy. That was reiterated this week by one of the builders \u00a0behind the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said, \u2018if anything happens on the barrier island, I\u2019m coming here for safety,'\u201d said Council President Anita Zalom.<\/p>\n

Filippone gave one more update on the building \u2013 the Christmas tree that will stand in front of it. The tree, she said, was picked out Monday afternoon from a farm in Hamilton Township. The tree will be a Colorado Blue Spruce, standing 12 to 15 feet.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has a beautiful shape and we will gently decorate it,\u201d said Filippone.<\/p>\n
