A long-awaited, high-end beach club planned to be built on a pier<\/a> off the south end of the Seaside Heights boardwalk still has to be built, but its owners have gained permission from the borough to open up an outdoor bar and place food trucks on the pier this summer.<\/p>\n

The pier is privately owned and is not borough property, Mayor Anthony Vaz said. Still, the pier\u2019s owner and developer, Dean Mabie, required approval from the town to open his temporary outdoor establishment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re going to be constructing [the beach club] after Labor Day,\u201d said Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz, adding that the pier would otherwise go unused during the summer. \u201cThey\u2019re going to have food trucks out on the deck, and it\u2019s going to run until about Sept. 10.\u201d<\/p>\n

By Wednesday night, tables and chairs had been set up on the pier, and an American flag was flapping in the breeze over the ocean at its east end.<\/p>\n

Vaz said the permit from the borough allows use of the beach and deck of the pier for the summertime operation, but stressed that both the pier and the beach are fully owned by the private enterprise.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a privately-owned beach, it\u2019s not run by the town,\u201d the mayor said.<\/p>\n

The ultimate plan for the pier is the beach club will be a large outdoor venue for music and food and drink service, complete with pools. The heart of the project is the construction of a 17,000 square foot permanent beach bar and a 28,000 square foot pool club. There will also be a 10,700 square foot entertainment venue that will seat between 1,000 and 2,000 people.<\/p>\n

The entire site plan for the property was approved by the borough in December<\/a>, and the site\u2019s liquor license was approved unanimously by the council earlier this year.<\/p>\n
