A group of volunteers is planning a major planting to protect Seaside Park’s dune line and is raising funds to pay for the plants.<\/p>\n

Bob Hopkins, volunteer coordinator for the Seaside Park Native Vegetation Planting Project, said his group planted 96 “good-sized” shrubs on the west side of the dune between 10th Avenue and 14th Avenue in the fall.<\/p>\n

“The other area in town that has a similar problem \u2013 almost no vegetation except dune grass which will die back in the next few years \u2013 is the north side of town between Stockton Avenue and N Street,” he said. “And that is where we will do a planting in March.”<\/p>\n

Money is being placed in the borough’s 2022 budget, which starts July 1, 2021, for dune plantings, there it will not be available to fund the March planting, said Hopkins. The group is looking to solicit donations from residents and friends to fund that work.<\/p>\n

“We will need about $2000 for about 100 plants,” he said.<\/p>\n

Anyone who is willing to donate to the project is asked to sent a check made out to the Seaside Park Beautification Committee with a note on the lower left stating “SSPK NVPP,” and mail your check to Seaside Park Beautification Committee, P.O. Box 84, Seaside Park, N.J., 08752.<\/p>\n
