(File Photo)

A high-tech version of Seaside Heights’ popular Palm Sunday Easter Egg Hunt will allow families to enjoy an egg hunt outing on the borough’s boardwalk while observing social distancing, organizers announced this week. Families will be able to “hunt” at their own pace during four days and enter for prizes without touching anything other than their smartphone.

Egg Hunt participants can hunt at their leisure from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday or Sunday, Palm Sunday weekend (March 27-28), or Easter weekend (April 3-4). The timeframes are provided to ensure that the locations where clue eggs are located are open. The event is child-oriented, with “C-Side the Easter Rabbit” featured throughout.

“There is no advantage to hunting at one time versus another,” an announcement from Michael Redpath, executive director of the borough’s Business Improvement District, said. “Every family or group that participates in the hunt and completes an entry online will be mailed at least one prize coupon. Prizes provided by the coupons range from one day beach badges, to slices of pizza, to arcade game play.”

To enter a bonus prize drawing, hunters can take a picture of their Hunt group, properly masked, with one of the egg clue posters. The photo is then included in the Hunt entry form online (the link appears at the end of this article).

Hunters will need a smartphone with the ability to scan QR codes for the hunt. Following the guide, they will need to find one egg clue poster in designated areas of the boardwalk. They will then scan the QR code on each egg to get a clue that they will need to enter on their entry form. One of the eggs scanned will provide a unique secret number for each entrant. Entries are limited to one per household.

Participants complete an online entry form, including entering the clues they found and secret number. All valid entrants will receive at least one prize coupon. Prize coupons will be mailed to valid entrants by April 12. Prizes are donated by Seaside Heights businesses as a thank-you to fans of the town.

“Seaside Heights’ fans count on us for traditional family fun,” said Mayor Anthony Vaz. “During the Covid restrictions, we have partnered with the Seaside Heights Business Improvement District to offer activities that can be enjoyed safely.”

Last year’s Easter Egg Hunt was moved completely online at the height of the pandemic. The borough also partnered with the BID for a “hybrid” fall boardwalk Scavenger Hunt and a virtual First Night event in January.

To participate, hunters must visit www.exit82.com/egghunt for complete instructions and a guide that they can download, print, and carry with them on the hunt.

A high-tech version of Seaside Heights’ popular Palm Sunday Easter Egg Hunt will allow families to enjoy an egg hunt outing on the borough’s boardwalk while observing social distancing, organizers announced this week.
