A group of volunteers from Seaside Park planted more than 200 examples of hardy dune-anchoring species in town, shoring up the borough’s protective berm from future storms.<\/p>\n

The group, led by resident Stevie Kiziukiewicz, undertook the project March 27 at the Seventh Avenue beach.<\/p>\n

“This year we are planting more ice plants and late blooming lilies,” said Kiziukiewicz in an e-mail forwarded to Shorebeat, adding that there were also dwarf butterfly bushes and black-eyed Susans planted.<\/p>\n

The group is planning another planting project May 29 with plant donations from The Home Depot, Lowes and Walmart. Those plantings will add goldenrod, rosa regusa, and shasta daisy plants to the mix.<\/p>\n

The group is always looking for both volunteers as well as donations to buy more plants. Those interested can call Kiziukiewicz at 732-245-0210.<\/p>\n
