A Toms River police officers was arrested while off-duty Friday night for her actions during an apparent domestic dispute, the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office said in a statement issued Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Rebecca Sayegh, 32, of Toms River, was charged with the Apil 25 incident. She faces charges of home invasion burglary, two counts of assault, two counts of criminal mischief, terroristic threats, and resisting arrest. She is currently lodged in the Ocean County Jail, however a<\/p>\n

According to the statement from prosecutors, Berkeley Township police were called to a residence on Evernhan Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance at about 11:20 p.m. Responding officers discovered that an individual, later identified as Sayegh \u2013 an off-duty Toms River Township Police Officer \u2013 had \u201csmashed the front glass door of the residence, entered the residence, and then assaulted and threatened two victims inside the residence.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is also alleged that Sayegh damaged the hood of a vehicle belonging to one of the victims, which was parked in the driveway of the residence.<\/p>\n

Sayegh was taken into custody at the scene \u2013 but only after having \u201cresisted efforts to peacefully place her under arrest,\u201d prosecutors said. She was originally served with the charges via summons pending an upcoming first appearance in Ocean County Superior Court, but due to the serious nature of the charges, Sayegh was re-charged by way of a warrant on April 28, 2025. She was taken into custody at her residence by Berkeley Township police officers, and transported to the Ocean County Jail where she is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.<\/p>\n

Sayegh has previously garnered attention in the press \u2013 but for positive reasons. She was called a hero<\/a> after saving a homeowner and two pets from a house fire in which she broke down the door and helped the victims to safety.<\/p>\n
