McDonald\u2019s has submitted a plan that would result in a Toms River bank building being demolished in favor of one of the chain\u2019s new restaurants, according to a filing with the township\u2019s planning board.<\/p>\n

The McDonald\u2019s restaurant would be located at 1256 Indian Head Road, a shopping plaza which is currently anchored by The Home Depot. Under the plan proposed by McDonald\u2019s a former Wachovia and Wells Fargo bank building located on a pad site in the shopping center\u2019s parking lot would be demolished. McDonald\u2019s would then construct a new, 3,964 square foot restaurant with a dual lane, side-by-side drive-through. The project would also include site improvements and a parking area with a total of 32 parking spaces, plus signage, menu boards, and landscaping.<\/span><\/p>\n

While a McDonald\u2019s restaurant is permitted in the underlying zone, the project falls under the jurisdiction of the planning board since several bulk variances are required. A front yard setback to Route 9 of 99.6 feet is proposed where 120 feet is required. The restaurant chain is also proposing handicap parking spaces of 8 feet and 11 feet in width, rather than 12 feet, as normally required. A few additional minor variances apply to the site because of the proposed menu boards and drive-through lane.<\/p>\n

The proposal will be heard by the planning board at its Oct. 1, 2025 meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. at the township municipal complex at 33 Washington Street.<\/p>\n
