McDonald\u2019s has proposed a new restaurant location in Toms River which would supplant a bank that has closed its doors.<\/p>\n

The fast food chain will present its proposal to the township\u2019s planning board Dec. 17, consisting of a plan to construct a restaurant at 1256 Indian Head Road and Route 9, a shopping center anchored by a Home Depot store. The McDonald\u2019s location would be built on a pad site in the parking lot which previously housed a Wells Fargo bank branch. The Wells Fargo building is now vacant.<\/p>\n

Under the plan, McDonald\u2019s would demolish the existing bank and construct a new, approximately 3,694 square foot restaurant with a dual lane, side-by-side drive-through facility. There would also be site improvements, including parking area upgrades, and the installation of signage, menu boards, and landscaping.<\/p>\n

The project requires the board grant the corporation several variances, including a front yard setback to Route 9 of 99.6 feet, whereas 120 feet is required; ADA parking spaces of 8 feet and 11 feet in width, rather than 12 feet; and ann internal landscape dividing strip width of 5.9 feet whereas 10 feet is required. There are also minor variances for the number of signs that would need to be installed due to the drive-through lanes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The board will hear the application at the Dec. 17, 2025 meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. at the township municipal complex on Washington Street.<\/p>\n
