A juvenile, whose name has not released publicly, has been charged with murder following a shooting in Lakewood on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the shooting occurred at approximately 8:17 p.m., after which Lakewood police officers responded to the area of Pearl Street in reference to a male having suffered a gunshot wound. Responding officers discovered a juvenile male with a single gunshot wound to his back, the statement said. The victim was transported to Monmouth Medical Center. Southern Campus, in Lakewood where he succumbed to his injuries.<\/p>\n

An investigation conducted by county and local authorities “revealed that a juvenile was responsible for shooting and killing the victim,” the statement said. “The juvenile is currently being detained in the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.”<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said a state law precludes his office from releasing any additional information about the suspect, such as a name or photo.<\/p>\n
