A Toms River man who serves as treasurer of a Cub Scout pack in the township has been charged with embezzling money from the organization.<\/p>\n

Louis Freund, the former treasurer of Toms River Cub Scout Pack 57, was charged with theft following an investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer, Detective Denis Mitchell conducted an investigation and discovered that Freund used $4,275 entrusted to him from the Cub Scout\u2019s account \u201cfor personal use and outside the parameters authorized by Cub Scouts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Freund was issued a summons and released, consistent with the state\u2019s bail reform law, and is required to answer at a date to be set by the court.<\/p>\n
