(Photo: Daniel Nee)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Ocean County College officials on Thursday announced <span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">a new dual admission and transfer partnership that will help students make a smooth transition from the two-year college in Toms River to Stockton\u2019s bachelor\u2019s degree program<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The five-year <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Transfer Pathways\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">agreement \u201cstrengthens the relationship between Stockton and\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Ocean County College\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">by offering multiple opportunities for students to seamlessly pursue associate and bachelor\u2019s degrees at the two institutions of higher education,\u201d a statement from the two colleges said.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the agreement states:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Students who are denied direct admission to Stockton as<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0a freshman applicant<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0can receive conditional dual admission in partnership with\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Ocean County College<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">. Students w<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ill attend classes at OCC<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0but have access to campus activities and student groups at Stockton and receive a special Stockton Identification card through Stockton\u2019s Transfer Pathways program.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Students already enrolled at OCC can apply for conditional acceptance to Stockton while continuing to work towards their associate\u2019s degree, and be as<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">sured of acceptance\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">prior to the term in which they are<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0ready to transfer.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Students who successfully complete their associate degree at\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Ocean County College\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">can automatically transfer to Stockton with junior standing to complete their bachelor\u2019s degree. Application fees to Stockton will be waived for eligible students.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Students who complete at least 36 credits at\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">OCC<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, and a total of 64 credits between the county college and the four-year institution, are eligible to receive a retroactive associate degree from\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">OCC<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">. Stockton and\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">OCC<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0will co-host \u201creverse transfer\u201d information sessions for students.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Stockton and\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">OCC\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">will develop specific program-to-program articulation agreements for high-demand majors to facilitate the quality and ease of transfer.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Students will receive joint advising from Stockton and\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">OCC\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">and a Stockton advisor will have office space and a regular schedule at\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">OCC<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Students will be eligible for financial aid from whichever institution they are attending. Stockton will provide five one-year scholarships of $2,000 per year to\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">OCC\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">graduates whose admission to Stockton is covered by the agreement.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Stockton and<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0OCC\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">will establish an advisory committee to ensure best practices in recruitment, enrollment management, academic and student services, information technology, marketing and facilities use.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201cThe number of transfer students coming to Stockton from Ocean County continues to grow, with mor<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">e than 250 enrolled<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0in the Fall 2018 semester,\u201d said Stockton President\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Harvey Kesselman.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s10\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201cThis agreeme<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s10\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">nt will provide increased support to students while they are at<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s10\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0Ocean County College<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s10\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s10\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">as well as\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">provide\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">assurance that they can have a smooth pathway to a bachelor\u2019s degree at Stockton<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Stockton already has similar agreements with Atlantic Cape Community College,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Brookdale Community College, Cumberland County College and\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Camden County College.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fb-share-button fcbkbttn_large_button \" data-href=\"https:\/\/shorebeat.com\/tomsriver\/2019\/01\/occ-stockton-sign-dual-admission-and-transfer-agreement\/\" data-type=\"button_count\" data-size=\"large\"><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ocean County College officials on Thursday announced a new dual admission and transfer partnership that will help students make a smooth transition from the two-year college in Toms River to Stockton\u2019s bachelor\u2019s degree programs.
