The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday said there was “no criminal intent” behind an injury allegedly sustained by a child at a Toms River Township recreation day camp.<\/p>\n

It was alleged that a child was instructed to sit on a blacktop surface, resulting in injuries since the blacktop was hot. Specifically, it was alleged that camp counselors instructed the child to sit on black top and the child suffered burns to his hands as a result.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office Special Victim\u2019s Unit was notified on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, by the Toms River Police Department and the state Division of Child Permanency and Protection<\/p>\n

“The allegation, facts and circumstances were subsequently reviewed by the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office Special Victim\u2019s Unit,” the statement said. “At this time, this matter does not appear to be criminal in nature, as there was no criminal intent associated with the actions of the camp counselors.” <\/span><\/p>\n

The matter has been referred back to the Division of Child Permanency & Protection\u2019s Institutional Abuse Unit for whatever action they deem appropriate, the prosecutor’s office said.<\/span><\/p>\n
