Toms River police say a serious accident in which a vehicle overturned on Route 37 Tuesday was the result of a driver who ran a red light.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred at about 6:05 p.m. at the intersection of Route 37 and Hooper Avenue, according to police spokeswoman Jillian Messina.<\/p>\n

According to police, Melissa Hernandez, 27, of Toms River, was stopped at the traffic light, but then proceeded through the red light into the intersection. Hernandez\u2019s Jeep was T-boned by a Volkswagen Jetta that has the right-of-way and was continuing northbound on Hooper Ave with the green signal.<\/p>\n

The impact from the crash led Hernandez\u2019s vehicle to overturn and sent the Jetta into two vehicles that were stopped at the light, Messina said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very happy to report that due to all occupants of the four involved vehicles wearing their seatbelts, and the airbags deploying in the first two vehicles, there were no serious injuries in this accident,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The driver of the Jetta refused treatment at the scene and later went to Community Medical Center for minor complaints of pain.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The accident is being investigated by Traffic Safety Officer Mark <\/span><\/span>Nater.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
