A tip generated by a social media post by Toms River police led to the arrest of a suspect in a bank robbery that occurred New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n

The robbery took place at the Chase Bank branch at 2 Route 37 West. The suspect presented a note to the teller and left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Patrick T. Callahan, 45 of Toms River, was charged with the bank robbery. Callahan was arrested Thursday evening in Burlington County by the Mount Laurel Police Department \u201cfollowing a tip originating from our social media page,\u201d police spokeswoman Jillian Messina said.<\/p>\n

The Ocean County Sheriff\u2019s Department Crime Scene Unit, K-9 Unit, and the FBI Red Bank Office assisted in the investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Toms River Police Department would like to thank the citizens who responded to and shared the Facebook post,\u201d the department said in a statement. \u201cWorking together sharing information helps create a safer community for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Callahan will be lodged in the county jail pending a bail hearing in Ocean County Superior Court. Anyone with additional information in the matter is asked to contact investigating TRPD Detective Quinn at 732-349-0150, ext. 1361.<\/p>\n
