Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that o<\/span><\/span>n Friday, February 7, 2020, the Toms River Township Police and<\/span><\/span> multiple<\/span><\/span> f<\/span><\/span>ir<\/span><\/span>e d<\/span><\/span>epartments responded to a residence in the Silverton section of Toms River,<\/span><\/span> for a report of a <\/span><\/span>structure fire.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Upon the arrival of emergency personnel, the structure w<\/span><\/span>as fully engulfed<\/span><\/span> with<\/span><\/span> the fire<\/span><\/span> spreading<\/span><\/span> into the four surrounding residences. <\/span><\/span>Emergency service personnel <\/span><\/span>determined that the structure was occupied by two adults and three children at the time of the fire. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It<\/span><\/span> was further determined that a<\/span><\/span> male and<\/span><\/span> three children <\/span><\/span>evacuated the residence, however one female remained inside. Rescue efforts were attempted by police and fire personnel, but were unsuccessful.<\/span><\/span> After<\/span><\/span> the fire was extinguished, a female body<\/span><\/span> was discovered<\/span><\/span> inside the residence.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A Toms River Township Police Officer was transported to Community Medical Center and treated for smoke inhalation<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span><\/span>This is an ongoing investigation by <\/span><\/span>the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s <\/span><\/span>Office <\/span><\/span>Arson Unit, Toms River Township Police Department Detective Bureau and Oc<\/span><\/span>ean County Sherriff\u2019s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.<\/span><\/span> \u00a0We are not releasing the name of deceased until <\/span><\/span>proper notifications <\/span><\/span>are made. This<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is a sad day for everyone involved,\u201d Prosecutor Billhimer concluded.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
