Jumping around on trampolines, at first glance, is something most people assume is an activity limited to children. But at SkyZone Trampoline Park in Lakewood, the fun isn\u2019t saved for just one age group.<\/p>\n

SkyZone\u2019s Lakewood location is one of 365 parks\u00a0in the United States and abroad. The facility is made up of colorful dodgeball and volleyball courts, a \u201cfoam zone\u201d filled with 10,000 foam cubes, and a massive free jumping zone. Since opening in April 2015, the park has become wildly popular for kids\u2019 birthday parties, family nights out, class trips \u2013 as well as with teens and adults.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s so successful because families get to come here, get their exercise and have fun doing it,\u201d said\u00a0Leanne Barenbaum, the park\u2019s general manager, while leading Shorebeat on a tour. \u201cThe ability to come here, blow off some steam, throw\u00a0a ball around, is something that really attracts people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The facility offers three dodgeball courts that can be converted into volleyball courts. Dodgeball, however, is the park\u2019s most popular activity. The location even hosts tournaments where locals compete against other parks to qualify for an Ultimate Dodgeball Tournament in Las Vegas. All of the activities are held on trampolines, giving participants the ability to jump, fall and bounce as much as they wish.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re supposed to burn about 1,000 calories an hour doing this,\u201d said\u00a0Barenbaum.<\/p>\n

Over the past several months, SkyZone has introduced GLOW every Friday night \u2013 a darkened\u00a0atmosphere with neon lights reflecting off every surface, complete with a DJ spinning hit music.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pads light up, everyone\u2019s shirts and socks glow, and we have an amazing DJ that brings a big dance party,\u201d said\u00a0Barenbaum. \u201cIt\u2019s a totally different experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

GLOW attracts all ages, though the crowd tends to get a bit older as the hours get later. But even outside of the GLOW event, the park serves a diverse array of groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe try to make people understand that it\u2019s not just for kids,\u201d said\u00a0Barenbaum. \u201cWe had a 40th birthday party here a few weeks ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

SkyZone has also been used for corporate team-building events and as an outing for military personnel at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.<\/p>\n

Patrons pay by the length of time they\u2019ll be using the facility. Admission can be purchased in 60, 90 and 120 minute blocks, or the park will customize a plan upon request. For parents who don\u2019t want to get in the mix, there are no worries. An upstairs area comes complete with massage chairs and snacks for mom and dad to take a break as well.<\/p>\n

SkyZone serves an important purpose in 2017: \u201cYou can come here to get away from your phone and computer screen,\u201d\u00a0Barenbaum said.<\/p>\n
