A man was shot at approximately 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Toms River, according to a joint statement from township police and the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The short statement, issued at about 10:40 p.m., said local police and the prosecutor\u2019s office\u2019s Major Crimes Unit were investigating a shooting that occurred on Main Street in Toms River. It was not specified whether the shooting occurred outside or behind closed doors.<\/p>\n

The preliminary investigation has revealed that one male victim had been wounded. He was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune \u201cwith life threatening injuries,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an active and ongoing investigation,\u201d the statement went on to say. \u201cMore details will be released when they become available. There is no danger to the public at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
