A local man suspected of being behind a robbery spree was arrested New Year\u2019s Eve after his latest alleged heist, police announced.<\/p>\n

Around 7 p.m. Dec. 31 \u2013 just hours after police released a press statement on the previous robberies<\/a> \u2013 officers were called to the Exxon gas station located at 13 Route 37 East, near Main Street, for a reported robbery. <\/span><\/p>\n

Upon arrival, the officers met with the store clerk who reported that a white male suspect threw hot coffee on him then removed money from the cash register. The man fled on foot west towards Route 166. After investigation by the Toms River Police K-9 Unit and Ocean County Sheriff CSI Unit, the suspect was determined to be Thomas Jann, 33, of Beachwood<\/div>\n

The arrest followed a joint investigation with the Toms River Police Department, Beachwood Police Department, Ocean County Sheriffs Department, and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office. Jann was ultimately located by detectives at a hotel along Route 9 in Toms River at 2 a.m. where he was peacefully taken into custody, police said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDetectives were able to connect Jann to the Exxon robbery as well as three previously reported robberies that occurred in the township: Wawa on Dec. 19, Krauszer\u2019s on Dec. 26, and the 7-Eleven on Dec. 30,\u201d police said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Jann was also implicated in a robbery that occurred on Christmas Eve at Robin\u2019s Convenience Store & Deli, 256 Atlantic City Boulevard,in Beachwood.<\/p>\n

Jann is now facing five counts of robbery as a result of the joint investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolice Chief Mitchell A. Little credits the teamwork between law enforcement agencies for taking him into custody before someone was seriously hurt,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

Jann was being held at the Ocean County Jail.<\/p>\n
