A Toms River building contractor has been charged with failure to register as a home improvement contractor following an investigation prompted by several township homeowners.<\/p>\n

Thomas Carlevale, 34, of Toms River, was charged Monday.<\/p>\n

In response to complaints from multiple homeowners in Toms River claiming that Carlevale had done work on their homes \u2013 only to later be made aware that he was not a licensed contractor \u2013 an investigation was conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office Economic Crimes Unit, the prosecutor\u2019s office said in a statement. The investigation, they say, revealed that Carlevale had allegedly solicited and performed home improvement work on homes in Toms River under the company names \u201cT-Tech Construction\u201d or \u201cT-Tech Building and Electric\u201d in October of 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter Carlevale failed to pass inspections and\/or obtain necessary permits for the work he performed, the homeowners became suspicious and contacted law enforcement,\u201d the statement from the prosecutor\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n

A further investigation revealed that Carlevale is alleged to have performed the work in question despite the fact that he had not possessed a valid home improvement contractor\u2019s license since 2015.<\/p>\n

On January 11, 2021, Carlevale surrendered himself to Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office Economic Crimes Unit. \u00a0He was processed and released on a summons pending a future court date.<\/p>\n

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer urged anyone who believes they may have been a victim in the case to contact Sgt. Ray Gardner or Detective Eric Ludwick of the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office Economic Crimes Unit at 732-929-2027, extension 3070.<\/p>\n

The Ocean County Sheriff\u2019s Department assisted in the investigation.<\/p>\n
