The driver who police say caused a serious motor vehicle accident by running a red light Sunday was unlicensed and uninsured at the time, authorities charged.<\/p>\n

Jeffrey Loffredo, 25 of Toms River, was traveling west on Bay Avenue when he failed to stop for a red light and collided with a Honda HRV that was crossing Vaughn Avenue with a green signal, police said in a statement. That Honda was being driven by Jeffrey Edgar, 51 of Toms River, who was traveling north. Edgar\u2019s vehicle, in turn, flipped onto its side and collided with a Chevrolet Silverado, which was being driven by Donald O\u2019Brien, 51 of Toms River, who was stopped on Vaughn Avenue for the red light.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred Sunday May 16, 2021, at approximately 12:37 p.m., police said.<\/p>\n

Edgar had to be extricated from his vehicle by members of the East Dover Fire Department and Toms River Fire Department. Paramedics and EMTs ultimately brought Edgar to the Skyview Park Landing Zone where he was Medevaced to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.<\/p>\n

Loffredo received summonses for failure to obey a traffic signal, driving with an expired driver\u2019s license, failure to possess a registration, and failure to possess an insurance card. There was no sign of driver impairment, according to police. The accident is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald.<\/p>\n
