There’s a dry spell coupled with high demand, announced the water company.

“We’ve seen record customer demand for sustained periods, which is primarily due to non-essential usage such as lawn watering, unnecessary flushing and car washing,” said Jim Mastrokalos, Director of Operations, in a prepared statement. “Conserving water both indoors and outdoors will help ensure that supply remains available for our community to meet critical health and safety needs,” he added.

Mastrokalos tips to consumers: use water wisely, reduce lawn watering and decrease the use of water to clean paved surfaces, such as sidewalks, driveways, patios and parking areas.

“Incorporating indoor and outdoor water conservation will help preserve water resources wherever possible, especially during these dry weather days,” Mastrokalos wrote.

The announcement came May 25. The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly forecast has a 30 percent chance of rain May 26 and rain forecast possibility for portions of the weekend.

Additionally, SUEZ began a road paving project in Toms River, mainly around the downtown area where infrastructure work was ongoing.

Weather permitting, Earle Asphalt is expected to be paving 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. through approximately Tuesday, June 1 but not on the weekend or on Monday, Memorial Day.

Streets to be paved are: Lafayette Avenue, Lexington Avenue, Franklin Avenue, Grand Avenue, Fairacres Drive, Madison Avenue, Hadley Avenue and Clinton Avenue.

“The project will require the use of heavy equipment and materials. Customers in the affected paving areas can expect to see pick-up trucks, dump trucks and paving materials as well as other necessary equipment being used during the project” SUEZ announced in its press release.

For more information, contact SUEZ at 877-565-1456.

It’s time to conserve water, water utility SUEZ announced to consumers in Toms River and the surrounding area.
