Police say a motorist making an improper left turn was the cause of an accident that caused serious injury to another driver.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred Wednesday at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Whitesville Road and Route 70.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from police, John Troncone, 25 of Jackson, was traveling east on Route 70, on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, with a green traffic signal when Robin Smith, 44 year of Berkeley Township, made a left onto Whitesville Road in front of the motorcycle.<\/p>\n

Smith was treated at the scene for minor injuries, however Troncone\u2019s leg was severed in the accident and he was flown to Jersey Shore Medical University for treatment.<\/p>\n

Toms River Police Officer Bridget Badalis is credited with applying two life-saving tourniquets to Troncone\u2019s leg on scene. Also responding to the scene was Toms River Traffic Safety officers, several patrol officers, county crime scene investigators, and Hatzolah EMS.<\/p>\n

Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren is investigating the accident. Smith was cited for failure to yield at an intersection, reckless driving, and driving an unregistered vehicle.<\/p>\n

“We would like to thank the several good Samaritans who stopped and rendered aid immediately while awaiting police and first aid arrival,” police said in the statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
