The annual question on what day trick-or-treating is held in Toms River so it does not conflict with the township\u2019s world-famous Halloween Parade has been settled in the traditional way.<\/p>\n

Mayor Maurice \u201cMo\u201d Hill and Police Chief Mitch Little announced Monday that trick-or-treating will take place on Sunday, Oct. 31.<\/p>\n

The Toms River Halloween Parade will take place on Saturday, Oct. 30 this year. The schedule follows the tradition which holds that, if Halloween falls on a Sunday, like it does this year, the parade will be on Saturday, with a rain date on Monday. The parade starts at Highland Parkway and Main Street stepping off at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

All registration is done the day of the parade only at the Henry Runco Firehouse on Robbins Street between Washington Street and Water Street. CDC guidelines will be enforced, officials said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the Toms River Halloween Parade falling on a Saturday this year, children can participate in trick-or-treating on the usual day, October 31st this year,\u201d said Hill.<\/p>\n

For anyone who does<\/strong> plan to trick-or-treat, police ask that they wear a mask or face covering in accordance with CDC guidelines, practice social distancing, carry hand sanitizer and be respectful of those who choose not to participate.
\nResidents who do not<\/strong> want to participate are encouraged to turn off their front light, close their front door and\/or place a sign in front of the home.<\/p>\n

Little reminded residents to take the usual precautions. While Halloween is one of the most enjoyable times of the year for children, it also presents dangers if the proper precautions are not taken, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn October 31st, motorists should be aware and drive with extra caution,\u201d said Little. \u201cWe advise parents to accompany children, always carry a flashlight for safety, stay on sidewalks or as close to the curb as possible and only go to houses where the porch lights are on.\u201d<\/p>\n

While there is no official curfew in Toms River, Little said that all trick-or-treaters will be asked to be off town streets by 9 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs always, please contact the Toms River Police Department if you see or hear any suspicious activity. Have a safe and Happy Halloween,\u201d the chief said.<\/p>\n
