A woman was rushed to a trauma center to undergo surgery after fleeing from a vehicle while her partner stabbed her, leading a Good Samaritan to step in and subdue the suspect on the side of the road.<\/p>\n

Toms River police officers were dispatched to N. Bay Avenue, near the intersection of Whitty Road, at about 4:45 p.m. Wedmesday for a reported domestic violence incident involving a stabbing, said police spokeswoman Jillian Messina. The female victim, whose name was not released by police, was driving when her male passenger began stabbing her, Messina said. She eventually was able to pull over to the side of the road and exit the vehicle, but the male suspect \u2013 who was also not immediately named \u2013 \u201cfollowed and continue to attack her.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Good Samaritan jumped in to stop the suspect and detained him until police arrival, Messina said. The victim was taken by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where she was undergoing surgery for her injuries at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, when township police issued their statement.<\/p>\n

The suspect was charged with first-degree attempted homicide and other weapons offenses. The incident remains under investigation by the Toms River Police Detective Bureau. The charges were approved by The Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, Messina said. No photos of the suspect were available.<\/p>\n
