A crash involving a Toms River Police Department motorcycle officer Thursday has now been linked to a slick substance of some kind on a roadway.<\/p>\n

Lakewood officers were called to the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Route 70 for a report of a Toms River Police Department motorcycle that was involved in a crash, the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office said in a statement. Investigators determined the officer, who was on duty and operating his department-issued motorcycle, was traveling eastbound on Route 70 and entered the on-ramp to continue onto New Hampshire Avenue. Shortly after entering the on-ramp, the officer \u2013 whose name was not divulged \u2013 lost traction with the road surface and dropped to the roadway.<\/p>\n

In the process, the statement said, the officer was ejected from the motorcycle. The officer was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he was treated for his injuries and released.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis appears to be an accident caused by a substance on the roadway that caused the officer to lose traction and, subsequently, control of the motorcycle,\u201d said Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. \u201cWe are thankful that the officer involved was treated and released and should make a full recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n

The crash remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, Lakewood Township Police Department and Ocean County Sheriff\u2019s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.<\/p>\n
