Toms River officials this week voted in favor of appropriating funds to build a dog park in town.<\/p>\n

At a township council meeting Wednesday night, the governing body unanimously voted in favor of awarding a $240,235 contract to Vulcan Construction Group, of Cookstown, to construct a dog park at the existing Silverton Park.<\/p>\n

Silverton Park is located off Maine Street in the Silverton section of the township. The dog park is expected to be constructed in the rear of the property, and will feature a number of amenities for pets, plus fencing. The bid submitted by Vulcan includes clearing and preparing the existing site, the installation of six vinyl fences between 4-feet tall and 10-feet tall with concrete foundations, a weed barrier, improvements to the parking area and the addition of several handicap spaces, signage.<\/p>\n

The park\u2019s amenities will include decorative 6-foot-long benches anchored into concrete, a walking path, a pet waste station with a concrete foundation, natural berms, plus themes decorative trash and recycling receptacles. The park will also be newly landscaped.<\/p>\n

Mayor Maurice \u201cMo\u201d Hill said he expects work to begin shortly and construction to take a minimal amount of time, though no formal construction start date has been set as the contract was just awarded.<\/p>\n
