A 28-year-old woman did not survive a hit-and-run incident at a major intersection of Route 70 early Sunday morning in Toms River Township.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, police were called to the intersection of the state highway and New Hampshire Avenue at about 2:10 a.m. Sunday, arriving to find the woman \u2013 whose name has not been released publicly \u2013 lying in the roadway. According to a witness on the scene,\u00a0the driver exited his vehicle, looked at pedestrian and then fled in the vehicle east on Route 70 toward Lakewood.<\/p>\n

The witness, according to the statement, described the vehicle as a dark colored 2003-2009 Ford Explorer. The vehicle has \u201csignificant damage to the front passenger side, including an inoperable passenger side headlight and hood damage.\u201d<\/p>\n

The driver is described as a tall, thin, white male, with blonde or reddish hair.<\/p>\n

First responders immediately rendered aid to the victim along with EMTs and paramedics, and a pulse was initially regained. She was transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, Lakewood, where she was later pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n
