A 37-year-old man from Bangor, Maine who has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and related crimes in connection with a non-fatal officer-involved shooting in South Toms River on April 29, 2026 will remain in the Ocean County Jail while charges pend.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced Friday that Brian Lanzim, who faces three counts of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, two counts of unlawful use of body armor, burglary, terroristic threats and 22 counts involving large capacity ammunition magazines, will remain behind bars. On Friday, Superior Court Judge Pamela M. Snyder, ordered Lanzim to remain detained.

The charges stem from events in which officers from the South Toms River Police Department responded to a residence after reports that Lanzim had traveled from Maine – armed – and had made threats against people at the home. According to authorities, Lanzim drove his vehicle across the front lawn of the residence. While officers were present in the area, he exited and police engaged him, resulting in the non-fatal shooting.
