Seaside Park officials have awarded a contract for improvements to the breakwater infrastructure at the municipal marina off J Street.
The borough council last week voted unanimously to award an $84,388 contract to R. Kremer and Son Marine, of Brick, to perform the project at the marina that was designed by the borough’s engineering firm, CME Associates. The projects will consist of the demolition of portions of the existing breakwater, construction of new sections of breakwater, bulkhead repairs and other incidental work at the marina.
The breakwater at the marina is made up of two bulkhead structures that wrap around the cove near its entrance, with one extending from the slip closest to the bay at the parking area between J Street and I Street, and the second extending from the innermost portion of the peninsula at K Court, north of the marina itself. The bulkheading serves to attenuate wave action from the bay, protecting the marina – and the boats inside it – from damage and controlling shoreline erosion. Much of the work will focus on one section of the existing breakwater.

“The breakwater on the left side of the marina, which is north of the bayward entrance, has a 35-foot section that is in disrepair,” said Councilman William Kraft, last month when the project went out to bid. “It will require replacement.”
Earlier this year, the council signed a $30,500 contract with engineering firm CME Associates to design the project and see it through to the bidding process. The work schedule has yet to be decided.
