A live show, a salty breeze on the boardwalk, and no bridge or tunnel traffic: Broadway will return to the beach this week for its latest season of performances in Seaside Heights.
The annual series of free shows has become a tradition in Seaside Heights, where actors, musicians and dancers from Broadway productions travel to the Shore area to put on the performances. The idea was the brainchild of local resident Dee Pellegrino and Broadway producer Joseph John Brunetti. This year’s first performance will be held this Friday, July 18 at the Franklin Avenue stage, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Friday’s production will be “Broadway Blockbuster Night, featuring CHICAGO,” where stars from the original Broadway cast of CHICAGO, as well as many other recognizable names, will come together for a performance from the popular musical.
The two following performances will be held Friday, August 15 when “Aladdin & Mama Mia” will be presented as part of “Kid’s Night” on the boardwalk. Then, on Monday, Sept. 1, cast members from “The Great Gatsby” – one of Broadway’s hottest new shows of the past year – will be performing for the boardwalk crowd.
The performances will feature cast members from The Great Gatsby, Caroline or Change, On The Town, American Idiot, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, and more, including the beloved appearance of the original genie from the hit Aladdin.
