Seaside Park Police Blotter: Bird on the Mend, Late Night Tractor, ‘Identity’ Crisis

Seaside Park police have released their weekly blotter, with a sampling of calls to which the department responded over the past week. The total number of calls handled was 102. The blotter appears below:

Animal – A caller reported an injured seagull by Public Works. Officers responded and located the injured bird. The bird was safely placed into our animal pen, and animal control was advised to collect the seagull.

Property Check – Police responded to the area of 3rd and Ocean for a report of an open third story window on a house that appeared to be vacant. Officers responded and checked the residence. The perimeter was checked, and no signs of forced entry were observed. All lower doors and windows were found to be secure, and no one was at the residence. Police attempted to reach out to the homeowner to let them know about the window.

Landlord Tenant Dispute – Police were dispatched to police headquarters for a walk-in that wanted to report an issue with a tenant. Officers arrived and spoke to the caller who explained the situation. All the information was gathered to generate a report. The caller was advised how to proceed with signing complaints if they wished to do so.

Alarm – Police responded to the area of 11th and Central Avenue for a burglar alarm activation. Officers responded and checked the residence. All doors and windows were found to be secure, and no signs of forced entry were observed. It was determined that the alarm was set off in error.

Odor Investigation – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the ocean block of 2nd Avenue for a possible natural gas leak. Police and fire responded to secure the scene. New Jersey Natural Gas arrived and made the necessary repairs to the resident’s gas meter.

Noise Complaint – Police were dispatched to the area of 5th and Ocean Avenue for a report of a tractor trailer idling for a long period of time. Officers responded and spoke to the driver who was waiting to make a delivery for a construction job the next morning. Police escorted the driver to a non-residential area where he could park so the residents would not be disturbed.

Fraud – A walk-in at police headquarters wanted to report possible identity theft. The caller advised police that when they went to update their vehicle registration online with the DMV, they observed that their address was completely changed to an address they did not recognize. They contacted the DMV, and they were told the address was changed several months ago and a duplicate license was also requested. The caller said they did not notice anything suspicious on their bank accounts. Officers called the police department in the jurisdiction where the changed address was from, and they did not have any suspicious or criminal activity noted there. This is an ongoing investigation.

First Aid – Police and Tri-Boro First Aid responded to help a patient experiencing abdominal pain. Officers and EMS arrived and assessed the patient at the scene. They were later transported to Community Medical Center for treatment.

Fire Call – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of 7th and Central Avenue for a report of a possible chimney fire. Police and fire arrived and began to secure the scene. The fire company discovered a small chimney fire which was contained within the chimney cap. The fire company made sure it was safe and extinguished. They advised the homeowners not to light any fires until a chimney sweep comes out for maintenance.

Open Door – Police were dispatched to the area of Farragut and Boulevard for an open door to a residence. Officers arrived and located the residence and checked the exterior and interior. It appeared to be unoccupied and under construction. Nothing appeared to be disturbed, and police were able to secure the door.
