A number of Toms River’s roadways will see reduced speed limits and more stop signs following the final passage of an ordinance revising local traffic ordinances.
The township council unanimously voted in favor of the changes last week. The modifications were, in many cases, requested by residents. The code was changed via the revision of several separate ordinances following a review of the roadways in question by the police department and engineering officials. Generally, the ordinances were modified to lower speed limits and add stop signs where yield signs have historically been located. The specific changes are listed below. They include:
- Windsor Avenue: Between Princess Court And Vaughn Avenue from 30 m.p.h. To 25 m.p.h.; Between Vaughn Avenue And Fischer Boulevard from 40 m.p.h. To 35 m.p.h.; Between Fischer Boulevard And Eastern Terminus from 30 m.p.h. to 25 m.p.h
- Hancock Avenue: Designated as a through street.
- Grand Avenue: From 35 m.p.h. to 25 m.p.h. for the entire length.
- Lexington Avenue: From 35 m.p.h. to 25 m.p.h. for the entire length.
- Indian Hill Road: Remove yield sign at Carol Drive intersection and replace with flashing stop sign.
- Indian Hill Road: Remove yield sign at Roundtree Drive intersection and replace with flashing stop sign.
- Gilford Avenue and Anthony Avenue: Add flashing stop sign and stop bar.
- Gilford Avenue and Morris Boulevard: Add stop bar.
The council also voted to remove Colonial Road and Continental Drive from the code in its entirety, as neither street actually exists.
