A police-involved shooting is under investigation in South Toms River, prosecutors announced Thursday morning.
No details about the incident nor its context or location were shared by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office in a short statement issued to the press Thursday. The statement only said that the shooting was “non-fatal” and occurred at 9:49 p.m. Wednesday night. The reason for the lack of information being released was cited as a state Attorney General directive.
“A public statement will be released upon completion of the investigation, with the approval of the Attorney General,” it said.
The time of the incident aligns with a text alert sent by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday night that advised people to avoid the area around South Main Street and Dover Road due to “police activity.”
