A Brick Township man is facing strict liability drug-induced death charges in connection with the death of a township woman in January. He also faces drug and weapons charges from a previous case, and had been released from jail in that matter.
Roderick Seward, 31, was taken into custody Wednesday after a toxicology analysis found that the death of a 27-year-old woman in January was the result of a cocaine overdose, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. On Jan. 26, 2026, at approximately 9:10 a.m., Brick police responded to a residence for a report of an unresponsive female. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of the victim, already deceased from an apparent drug overdose. An investigation revealed Seward had supplied the drugs to the victim, the statement said.
Seward surrendered himself to Brick Township Police Headquarters; he was transported to the Ocean County Jail where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing. According to jail records, Seward had already been freed from jail in connection with a separate case out of Toms River which involved the firing of a weapon in an altercation at a convenience store in 2025. He had also been charged with cocaine possession in connection with a search that resulted from a police investigation in that case. He was later released from jail due to New Jersey’s bail reform law. Those charges – possession of a wespon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, cocaine distribution, and simple cocaine possession – remain pending, according to jail records.
