Brick residents may have woken up to sunshine Friday, but Thursday’s distant brush with the edge of Hurricane Erin led to battered beaches and big waves. (Note: If the video of the waves above does not appear, disable ad blocking software.)
Nevertheless, a rip current advisory, high surf advisory and coastal flood warning all remained in effect Friday despite better weather. Also, notably, Brick’s beaches are in the midst of undergoing a replenishment project, with equipment having remained staged on the beach during the storm itself.
According to statements from the National Weather Service, the high surf advisory would remain in effect until 8 p.m. Friday, the coastal flood warning until 2 a.m. Saturday, and the rip current warning through Saturday night. For the High Surf Advisory, the NWS is forecasting large breaking waves of up to 5 feet in the surf zone. For the High Rip Current Risk, “dangerous” rip currents are expected.
For the Coastal Flood Warning, one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways were forecast.
Otherwise, fair weather has returned. The NWS is calling for sunny skies, north winds 10 to 15 m.p.h. and a high of 76 degrees.
