Next Round of Ortley Beach Replenishment is Rescheduled

Ortley Beach will receive its next round of beach replenishment later than expected, officials said Tuesday.

The neighborhood’s beachfront, which received an emergency round of replenishment in May and June of this year, will now see the permanent project begin in “late spring,” later than expected.

Toms River Councilwoman Maria Maruca said officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers told the township a different dredge boat will be used for that portion of the project. Ortley Beach will be replenished using a cutter head dredge instead of a hopper dredge. The work was expected to begin over the winter. Instead, Ortley Beach will receive sand after crews have completed Seaside Heights’ beaches.
