Well, it’s officially fall.
The island’s traffic lights descended into “blinking mode” this week – automatically at 12 midnight Monday, to be exact. The state Department of Transportation sets Oct. 15 as the date for the light change each year.
Speed limits on portions of the island have also been modified in some areas. While the Lavallette business district remains busy all year and maintains its speed limit, other areas have seen the limits raised from 35 m.p.h. to 45 m.p.h., depending on the location.
Thanks to a request from Lavallette officials, the traffic light on Elizabeth Avenue in that town has been added to the list of “blinkers” this season.
A few lights remain solid, including Washington Avenue in Lavallette, where students from Lavallette Elementary School cross each day. Seaside Heights’ lights also remain on year-round.
