Black Lives Matter Protester Charged After Allegedly Assaulting Man, 68, on Seaside Heights Boardwalk

A member of a group of about 25 protesters aligned with the Black Lives Matter movement was charged with simple assault by Seaside Heights police after he allegedly struck a 68-year-old man in the head during a verbal dispute, knocking him to the boardwalk.

Jamaal Holmes, 28, of Branch Drive in Toms River, was arrested at about 3:30 p.m. as a group of protesters from Black Lives Matter were walking down the boardwalk, according to Detective Steve Korman of the borough police department.

Holmes “struck a 68-year-old male subject in the facial area during a verbal altercation” between the two, when the protesters were at Sherman Avenue and the Boardwalk, Korman said.

After being struck the victim fell to the boardwalk, sustaining a small laceration to the back of the head, according to police.

Holmes was charged and released from the Seaside Heights Police Department.
