Lavallette Will Receive Not One, But Two Playgrounds From Generous Residents

Lavallette officials this week announced plans for two new sets of playground equipment to be installed at different locations along the bayfront, courtesy of generous residents and business owners from town.

The equipment will replace older sets at Washington Avenue and Reese Avenue, both along the bay.

The Washington Avenue playground equipment was purchased by the borough Monday night, and will be funded by a donation from the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, in memory of Ryan, a beloved local funeral director who died in 2019.

“His daughter gave us a check in his honor, and we put the order in,” said Council President Anita Zalom.

The council purchased the equipment from PlayWorld for $14,893. Councilman Robert Lamb said there is about a six-month waiting list for playground equipment to be delivered, and the borough received a discounted price if ordered by the end of June.

The Reese Avenue swingset equipment will be donated by Jersey Mike’s Subs and a few other donors, Zalom said, who wanted to give back to the borough.

“At the end of Reese, there will be a totally new swing set,” she said. “That will be all funded by Jersey Mike’s and a couple of citizens in town who wanted to remain anonymous.”

That equipment has not yet been ordered. The council formally accepted some of the donations by resolution Monday night.
