Planned Lavallette Power Outage ‘Indefinitely’; JCP&L Pushes Back

Lavallette officials said Wednesday that an overnight power outage that an announcement said could last up to seven hours will be postponed indefinitely.

Borough officials said Tuesday that JCP&L would be conducting emergency maintenance on infrastructure that would cause a potential power outage in the borough between 11 p.m. Wednesday night and 6 a.m. Thursday morning. The message ended with a number of tips and reminders for residents. The new announcement came Wednesday morning.

“After a meeting with Borough officials, JCP&L has agreed to postpone scheduled repairs to Lavallette’s electrical grid indefinitely,” Lavallette announced. “There will be no scheduled outage. Thank you.”

Meanwhile, JCP&L officials chalked the news about a power outage up to a miscommunication with borough officials and said the repairs would be taking place – there just wouldn’t be any outages as a result.

“We are making the repairs,” a representative told Shorebeat. “The repairs are happening as planned. The reason there is no outage is because we are able to re-route power to other circuits.”

“We would never do any type of planned maintenance on the barrier island after Memorial Day,” the company spokesman added. “It’s a last resort to have any kind of power outage.”
