Seaside Park Police Blotter: Nap on the Sidewalk, Wallet and Keys Snatched, Summer Squabbles

Seaside Park police have released their periodic blotter, featuring a sampling of calls from the past week. The total number of calls for service handled by the department over the last week is 302.

Alarm – Police were dispatched to the area of 11th and Ocean for a burglar alarm activation. Officers arrived and checked the residence. No signs of forced entry were observed. All doors and windows were found to be secure, and it was determined that the alarm was set off in error.

Well-Being Check – While on patrol in the area of Stockton and Ocean Avenue Officers observed a male laying on the ground and conducted a well-being check. Police made contact with the male who was intoxicated and made sure he was okay. Officers helped him up and asked him if he needed medical attention which he declined. The subject had a ride coming to pick him up and police escorted him to a bench to sit on while he waited.

Traffic Violation – While on patrol Officers observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a motor vehicle stop. While speaking with the driver, officers learned that the vehicle’s registration had been expired for 12 months and did not have insurance either. The vehicle was towed, and the driver was issued multiple traffic summonses for the violations.

First Aid – Police and Tri-Boro First Aid Squad responded to the area of C Street and Central Avenue for a male experiencing heat related distress. Officers and EMS arrived and assessed the patient at the scene, and he was later transported to Community Medical Center for treatment.

Borough Ordinance Violation – While on patrol in the area of Stockton Avenue beach police observed a male smoking marijuana which violates the no smoking ordinance. The subject was advised of the ordinance, and he was issued a borough summons for the violation.

Verbal Dispute – While on patrol in the area of Stockton and Ocean Police observed a male a female actively arguing. Officers separated both parties and began to investigate the incident. It was determined to only have been a verbal altercation. The female did not want to leave with the male so both parties went their separate ways and police stood by while the female waited for a ride.

Theft – Police responded to the area of Porter and the boardwalk for a female who stated her keys and wallet were taken off the counter of a business. Officers responded and spoke to the caller and obtained all the information needed to generate a report. The business showed police the video footage of a male subject taking the wallet and keys belonging to the female from the counter at the establishment. The area was checked but the subject was gone. This matter is still under investigation.

Disturbance – Police were flagged down by a male who stated he was involved in an altercation with another male on the boardwalk. Officers spoke to both parties who stated they had been in an ongoing altercation as they made their way down the boardwalk as they kept taunting each other. Individuals were separated and advised of complaint procedures if they wished to sign charges.

Fire Alarm – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of Stockton and Central for a fire alarm activation. Officers arrived and did not observe and smoke or fire. Audible alarms were sounding from the smoke detectors. The fire department arrived and checked the residence with their equipment, and it was determined that the residence was safe. The alarms were sounding from an outdated and faulty smoke detector.

Arrest – Police were dispatched to the area of M and Ocean Avenue for a male and female involved in an altercation. Officers arrived and spoke to both parties to investigate the incident. Nothing physical occurred, but during the argument the male broke the female’s phone rendering it unusable. The male was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where he was processed charged and released.
