Seaside Park, with a rich baseball and softball history – and a freshly upgraded field – will begin to “play ball” next week, borough officials announced.
The Seaside Park Softball League will kick off the 2025 season on Monday, June 9 at 7 p.m., with an invitation for residents to come out and enjoy the festivities at the newly-renovated Moe Levine Field located at 13th and Barnegat avenues.
Opening ceremonies will include words from former player and current Mayor John Peterson, an introduction to the organizer of the resurrected Seaside Park Basketball League, a ceremonial first pitch from Councilman Joe Connor and the opening game featuring Causeway Family of Dealerships, the champions of last year’s summer league versus the Ducks, the champions of last year’s fall league.
Seaside Park’s baseball diamond has seen some significant improvements over the last two years. On a chilly night during December 2023, new LED lights enveloped the field in vibrancy, enlightening the infield dirt, the deep-green grass and the blue-green colors of the adjacent playground, tennis courts and basketball courts. It took about six weeks for the LED lights to be installed, and they were tested following a borough council meeting.
More recently, the council voted to move forward with ground-level renovations, including a resurfacing of the field, an underground drainage retention basin, new base paths and a new backstop, among a few other aesthetic upgrades. The field has also been re-sodded and graded.
