The “Miracle Mets” of 1969, known for a magical season that ended with a World Series win just seven years after expanding into the National League with the worst record in baseball, will be remembered during a special presentation at the Upper Shores branch of the Ocean County Library in Lavallette on Wednesday.
“Join us as we share memories of the 1960s Mets from their 1962 humble beginnings as the worst team in baseball to their triumphant 1969 season as World Champions,” an announcement said.
The program will feature Rick Feingold, a lifelong Mets fan who teaches American History at Bergen Community College. The program will allow attendees to share memories of the 1960s Mets teams from the losing – but ever-hopeful – 1962 squad to the team that captured the excitement of New Yorkers just a few years later. Featured are Managers Casey Stengel and Gil Hodges, 1969 rivals Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, and Baltimore Orioles, Mets sign-man Karl Ehrhardt and more. The program includes Mets highlight videos from the World Series-winning season.
The event will be held Wednesday, June 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the library, located at 112 Jersey City Avenue. Registration is requested for those who wish to attend the free program.
