Seaside Park Police Blotter: Cat Gets Stuck During Renovation, Fish Hook Surprise, Noisy Walk Home

Seaside Park police have released their weekly blotter, featuring a sampling of calls to which the department responded over the past week. The total number of calls for service they handled was 180.

The blotter appears below:

Verbal Dispute – While on patrol in the area of Stockton and Ocean Avenue, officers observed a verbal argument between a female, and a male and female, who had been walking by. The female was intoxicated and was shouting at the male and female who were walking by. Police intervened and separated both parties who did not know each other. Information was gathered and it was determined that the intoxicated female instigated the argument. Both parties were advised of complaint procedures if they wished to sign charges and they went their separate ways.

Arrest – Police responded to a disturbance in the area of Decatur and Ocean Avenue between a male and female in their vehicle. Officers arrived and located the couple who were fighting in their vehicle. Officers spoke to both subjects, and it was determined that the female had struck the male in the face. She was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing where she was charged with simple assault and released.

First Aid – Police and Tri-Boro First Aid Squad responded for a report of a male with a fishhook stuck in his thumb. Police and EMS arrived and arrived and assessed the patient at the scene. The male was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment.

Fire – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of 4th and Ocean for a fire alarm activation. Police arrived and checked the residence and did not observe and smoke or fire. The fire department arrived and checked the residence with their heat sensing equipment and determined everything was safe and that the alarm had gone off in error.

Borough Ordinance – While on patrol in the area of the O Street beach, officers observed a male with an open container of alcohol in public. Officers made contact with the male and advised him of the borough ordinance, and he was subsequently issued a summons for the violation.

Arrest – While on patrol in the area of J Street and Central Avenue, officers observed a vehicle driving the wrong way on Central Avenue and initiated a motor vehicle stop. After making contact with the driver an odor of alcoholic beverages was observed. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and it was determined that the driver was driving while under the influence of alcohol. The male was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing where he was charged with DWI as well as other motor vehicle violations.

Carbon Monoxide – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of 5th Avenue and Ocean for a carbon monoxide alarm notification. Police arrived and made sure everyone was outside in fresh air. The fire department arrived and checked the residence with their equipment and determined the residence was safe and that the alarm was set off in error.

Alarm – Police were dispatched to the area of North Avenue and Ocean for a burglar alarm activation. Officers arrived and checked the perimeter of the residence and did not observe any signs of forced entry. All doors and windows were found to be secure, and it was determined that the alarm was set off in error.

Arrest – Police were called to a disturbance in the area of L Street and Ocean Avenue for a male and female fighting. Officers arrived and located the subjects and spoke to both parties. It was determined that the male had assaulted the female. He was arrested and charged with simple assault and criminal restraint and released.

Officer Request – Police were dispatched to the area of Farragut and Ocean for a caller who stated there was someone in an apartment that should be vacant. Officers arrived and checked the unit which was unlocked. No one was found to be inside, and nothing appeared to be disturbed. Police left and locked the unit and advised the caller of their findings.

Animal – Police were dispatched to the area of Stockton and Boulevard for a caller who stated their cat was mistakenly sealed into the wall after a hole in the wall was fixed during a renovation. The callers stated the contractor was there earlier and sealed up the wall not knowing the cat had gone in and later on they could hear the cat inside the wall. Officers arrived and spoke to the homeowner who did not have the appropriate tools to take the wall apart themselves. The Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded with their tools and helped the homeowner open the wall up to get the cat out. The cat was apprehensive to exit with all the commotion, and the homeowners were going to coax the cat out with a treat when first responders left.
